What

What does the tour involve?

Oxford is famous for its ancient University, the second oldest in the world dating back to the 13th Century. It counts alumni such as JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, and Lewis Carroll, and modern-day scientists like Tim Berners and the late Stephen Hawking. But what really excites visitors are the tight, traffic-free, atmospheric streets of this typical English town or city. With its honey-coloured stone buildings and cobbled streets, Oxford is compact enough to walk round in a morning, with a visit to a college or the University itself. It also draws Harry Potter fans from around the world.

Where

What will I see?

  • The Bodleian library; created in1602 and is the 2nd largest library in Britain with over 12 million items.
  • A visit to one of the colleges. The University is an umbrella organization; the tutoring is actually done by one of the 39 separate colleges. Inside are gardens, squares and lovely chapels
  • The University Church of Saint Mary the Virgin; with parts dating back to the 13th century, this
church and it’s piercing spire is one not to be missed.
  • Christ Church College; a magical place especially when inspiring the filmmakers of Harry Potter,
namely the dining hall.
